Dylan Finds the Unexpected

When Dylan’s parents received the orders to move to MacDill Air Force Base (AFB), they were worried. As a military and homeschool family, they were concerned that moving in their son’s senior year would make finding friends extremely challenging.

Little did they know what God had in store!

MacDill AFB is home to one of our Campus Life Military ministry sites, where mother and former military spouse, Kristi Harrison-Coffey, facilitates the youth program on base. She’s leading a great team of volunteers and students. Each week about 18 middle school and high school teens gather to hang out and learn how to integrate Jesus into their lives.

So, when Dylan arrived, he was greeted with open arms by a group of peers who “got” him, kids who know what it feels like to be the “new kid” in the room.

Dylan is also a budding musician. There might be a chance for him to join a worship band at the chapel. But even if that doesn’t work out, it’s still amazing that he’s actively engaging all the fun events Kristi offers. Many of these activities draw 30-45 other kids just like Dylan.

We are proud of Kristi and the good work she’s doing, giving her faith away to the next generation and helping them become more resilient in the process.
